Nothing says "winter wonderland" better than a good old-fashioned sleigh ride with bell-laden horses, lap robes and starry nights.

In Steamboat Springs, where there's an abundance Champange Powder, you'll find sleigh rides ranging from romantic to adventerous.  Snuggle deep in the blankets as you take an incredible sleigh ride through the beautiful Rocky Mountain countryside.  What an ideal evening activity for the whole family.

Location
Four miles northwest of Old Town Steamboat (approximately a 15-minute bus ride). Ride into a secluded glen on Deer Mountain to a large tent nestled in an Aspen grove. Often hear coyotes singing to the moon.

Driving Directions
Transportation is included.  Pick-up time for all dinner sleigh rides is between 5:00pm and 5:30pm. Transportation is provided to and from your lodging property by the Big Rack Horseback Adventures.

Sleigh Ride Options:

• One Ride Nightly at 6:00 pm, return approximately 9:30 pm. Sleighs with high-backed seats (wool blankets furnished) pulled by teams of Belgian or Percheron horses. Sleigh ride to tent, have dinner, enjoy entertainment, sleigh ride back. (See us in February ’97 Bon Appetit ). The accommodations are a large tent, heated by three wood-burning stoves (very cozy).

Rates

Menu: NY strip steak, Chilean Sea Bass or Salmon Filets, Herb Roasted Duck or Chicken. Dinners include fresh baked bread w/herb butter, garlic roasted potatoes, green beans, Caesar salad and sauteed mushrooms; followed by gourmet coffee & dessert. Full service cash bar is available, please do not bring alcohol. Gratuity and alcoholic beverages are not included in the price. Guests must sign a waiver.

Sleigh Ride Options:

• Tepee Dinner - Tepees have a central warming fire surrounded by overstuffed couches and pillows. Lighting is a warm blend of candlelight and oil lamps. Drinks and hors d’oeuvres are served in the Elk River Guest Ranch Saloon followed by a sleigh ride to the tepee for dinner. After dinner, guests are treated to another sleigh ride back to the saloon for dessert & after dinner drinks.
• Pearl Heart Dining Room - Enjoy an enchanting horse drawn sleigh ride followed by an elegant dinner in the vintage Pearl Heart Dining Room, built in 1928.
• Private Champagne - The one horse private champagne sleigh dinner ride takes you on a romantic ride through the forest, drinks and hors d’oeuvres in the Saloon, then to a tepee for dinner. The sleigh holds up to 3 people.

Hours
Pick-up time for all dinner sleigh rides is between 4:00pm and 4:30pm. Please call to reconfirm your reservation, pick-up location and menu choices at least 48 hours in advance at 970-879-6220. Transportation is provided to and from your lodging property by the Elk River Guest Ranch.

Imagine a moonlit ride up the gondola with spectacular valley views, then snuggling under wool blankets for a Snowcat sleigh ride to Ragnar’s for a five course gourmet dinner and live acoustic music. Dinner sleigh rides are available every Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Not recommended for children under the age of 5.

Hours
Gondola boards at 6:00pm. Your name will be on a reservation list at the entrance of the gondola building.

Rates

• Dinner Sleigh Rides - The sleigh leaves the barn at 5:30pm. The ride is approximately 45 minutes long, depending on the weather conditions. Wool blankets are provided to keep warm during the ride. After the sleigh ride we will serve dinner family style in the horse barn. Choose from New York Steak, Grilled Garlic Salmon or BBQ Chicken, served with Cowboy baked beans, baked potato Mile High ranch biscuits, homemade apple crisp and an assortment of beverages. Bring your own alcoholic drinks if you’d like, as none are provided. We will have some old-fashioned entertainment with cowboy poetry and old cowboy songs with the guitar. After the entertainment, guests are welcome to kick up their heels and do a little dancing. Everyone is guaranteed to have a great time!
• Cattle Feeding Sleigh Rides - This sleigh ride lets you step back in time and see how the ranchers feed the cattle using their draft horses and sleigh. Feed the calves out of the palm of your hand! The sleigh ride is approximately 1.5 - 2 hours long. See how it was done years ago!

Hours
The Dinner Sleigh Ride is at 5:30pm and the Cattle Feeding Sleigh Ride is at 10:00am. Both Sleigh Rides are available Monday - Saturday only. 48 hour cancellation notice required for full refund.

Location
Saddleback Ranch is located just outside of Milner, a short drive from Steamboat Springs. Transportation is provided to and from the ranch. Please call the Saddleback Ranch at 970-879-3711 upon arrival in Steamboat to confirm ride time and pick-up location. If you wish to drive to the ranch, head west from Steamboat Springs on Highway 40 to Milner. Take a left on RCR 179 and drive about 3 miles. Follow the signs.

WindWalker Tours offers a 40 minute horse drawn sleigh ride that will take you along the banks of the Yampa River. Early rides (1:00pm) end with hot drinks at the log cabin and later rides (4:30pm and 7:30pm) offer a wonderful dinner of steak, (grilled chicken or a vegetable lasagna upon request only) with baked potato, beans, rolls and brownies. After dinner enjoy country music and dancing by recording artist Kenny Knapp.

Guests may bring their own alcohol if desired, as none is provided.

Hours
Rides are offered at 1:00pm, 4:30pm and 7:30pm. WindWalker Tours will provide roundtrip transportation the Meadows parking lot for the 4:30pm tour and from the Gondola Transit Center for the 1:00pm and 7:30pm tours.
